The Father is very fond of me..

"For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you; therefore I will give men for you, and people for your life."
(Isaiah 43:3-4)

Listened to a passionate sermon by Brennan Manning (from the JAMA New Awakening Conference in Dallas) last night. One thing that I think he was trying to drive at the congregation was the unconditional, incomparable, incomprehensible love of the Father. He told the story of an old friend who was incurably happy and gave this as the reason for his joy: "The Father is very fond of me."

The Father is very fond of me.

Fond, beyond love. Sure, God loves us - we accept that theological fact. He has to, because it's His nature. If He did not love, then all of our faith and deeds come to naught. But have you ever stopped to think that the Father is fond of us? He likes us. Read the inspired words of the prophet again: Since you were precious in My sight. I will give men for you, and people for your life.

Blows my mind.

Oh that the life-changing truth of the Father's unconditional love and affection would invade and take over all my thoughts. Then I would truly be transformed from the inside out, scorched by the unquenchable fire of the Father's passionate love. And that transformed life would pass on the flame to all it touched.

Hey, I love that Brennan Manning story, too. I got to hear it directly when he came to Conway last December. I've read nearly all of his books...
